We are a group of conservative Florida voters who support historic preservation and local control of zoning and development.
We started this group in response to preemption bills that would strip our coastal communities of their power over development and historic preservation.
We are opposing bills SB1526 and HB1647 which have been filed in the State of Florida Legislature for the 2024 Session.
Here are the legislators putting our heritage and local control at risk:
Local control is a cornerstone of how our state was founded. It is critical that local towns maintain control over zoning, development, and historic preservation. Bills SB1526/HB1647 gut local controls
Historic Preservation
Both bills remove protections on legally-designated buildings throughout the state of Florida. Hundreds of years of history could be at risk if these bills move forward. Tallahassee politicians will get to pick and choose what is historic in YOUR town. This would mean that historic treasures in your community could be bulldozed without so much as a public notice.
Stop Overdevelopment
Both bills would require that any replacement buildings be permitted at the maximum allowed height, without a public hearing or local community board oversight. This flies in the face of good urban planning and would potentially unleash a slate of new hi-rise developments in cities that may not have the infrastructure to handle such impacts
